Commercial Dishwasher Descaling: A Step-by-Step Guide to Keep Your Machine Running Smoothly

Posted by Ollie Nelson on

Regular descaling is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and longevity of your commercial dishwasher. Over time, hard water minerals can accumulate, causing scale deposits on heating elements and other components. This guide will walk you through the process of descaling your commercial dishwasher, ensuring it continues to run smoothly.

Materials Needed for Commercial Dishwasher Descaling

  • High-quality descale solution
  • Rubber gloves
  • Safety goggles
  • Bucket
  • Clean cloth or sponge

Step-by-Step Descaling Instructions

1. Preparation:

  1. Make sure you have read the Safety Data Sheet for the Descale solution you are using and have taken the necessary safety precautions (Nelson Descale Safety Data Sheet).
  2. Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles to protect against splashes or fumes from the descaling solution.
  3. Remove all dishes and utensils from the dishwasher.

2. Clear the Detergent:

  1. Disconnect the detergent line from the bottle and place it into an empty container.
  2. Fill the machine, run x1 wash cycle and drain. Repeat this process x3 times to ensure all detergent is cleared from the detergent line.

3. Add Descaling Solution to the Dishwasher:

  1. Pour 1 litre of descale solution directly into the wash tank.
  2. Allow the machine to heat to full working temperature. This will take 20-30 minutes depending on the type of machine.

4. Run the Commercial Dishwasher:

  1. Once the dishwasher reaches its full working temperature, run approximately 4-5 wash cycles to remove visible scale deposits.

5. Inspect and Rinse:

  1. After completing the wash cycles, drain the machine and refill with clean water. Run two wash cycles to rinse out residual descale solution, then drain.
  2. Repeat the rinsing process once more to ensure all residual descale solution is removed.

6. Reconnect the Detergent Line:

  1. Reattach the detergent line to the bottle.
  2. Run 2-3 wash cycles to re-prime the detergent through the detergent line into the machine.

7. Final -Cleaning:

  1. Wipe down the dishwasher's interior with a clean cloth or sponge to remove any residue.
  2. Your commercial dishwasher is now descaled and ready for use.
