Restarting Your Commercial Dishwasher: A Step-By-Step Guide

Posted by Sara Malcom on

After a lengthy period of downtime it's crucial to properly restart your commercial dishwasher or glass washer. Following the correct start-up procedure will help prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance. In this blog post, we'll walk you through the necessary steps to recommission your glass washer after extended periods of disuse.

Preparing for the Start-up Procedure

  1. Refill detergent and rinse-aid containers: For optimal results, we recommend using high quality chemicals.
  2. Reconnect feed pipes: Make sure they're submerged in the chemicals.
  3. Clean and refit filters: Wash all filters and reinstall them in the machine.
  4. Inspect wash and rinse arms: Verify that both top and bottom arms are clean and reattach them to the machine.
  5. Ensure free rotation of wash and rinse arms: Check that nothing obstructs their movement.

Powering Up the Machine

  1. Turn on the power: Switch the power on at the isolator or plug socket.
  2. Activate the water supply: Turn on the water supply if necessary.
  3. Power on the machine: Press the On/Off button.
  4. Wait for the machine to reach the proper temperature: This should take 30-40 minutes, or until the machine displays "END."

Cleaning the Machine

  1. Run five wash cycles: This cleans the cabinet and wash system. Use standard detergent or liquid renovating detergent, such as Refresh Liquid. Refresh Liquid helps remove blemishes, etching, and clouding from glassware, restoring them to their original condition.
  2. Refill the salt container: Use granular salt if needed.
  3. Perform water softener regeneration cycle: Follow the instructions for internal or external cycles, depending on your machine model.
  4. Drain and refill the machine: Prepare it for normal operation.
